HIV/AIDS Treatment Program (HATP)
Suggested Pre-Referral Evaluation and Management Guidelines
Referral to HIV/AIDS Treatment Program (HATP) is appropriate for patients with:
- Positive HIV ELISA and Positive HIV Western Blot tests.
- Positive HIV ELISA and Indeterminate HIV Western Blot.
- Documented history of HIV infection and need for continuation of care.
Suggested Additional Test/Management Prior to Specialty Visit
  • A documented positive test is necessary for referral.
  • HIV infection should be confirmed with the presence of a positive HIV Western Blot test since false positive HIV ELISA tests can occur.
  • Don't give patients positive results via telephone.
