for Osteoporosis

Suggested Pre-Referral Evaluation and Management Guidelines Consider secondary causes of bone loss (glucocorticoid excess, hyperparathyroidism, hypogonadism, Vitamin D or calcium deficiency, malabsorption, hyperthyroidism, liver disease, rheumatoid arthritis, alcohol, medications (glucocorticoids, anti-seizure medications, heparin, cyclosporine), anorexia nervosa, idiopathic hypercalciuria
Suggested Additional Test/Management Prior to Specialty Visit Calcium, phosphorus, electrolytes, creatinine, liver injury tests, alkaline phosphatase, TSH, 25-Vitamin D, testosterone (in men), CBC.

If calcium is elevated, measure PTH. 24 hour urinary calcium and creatinine
