Non-Specific Acute Knee Injury
Suggested Pre-Referral Evaluation and Management Guidelines
1) Ice/Compression/Elevation
2) Weight bearing limitations, with crutches, dependent on pain, swelling and instability
3) Physical Therapy
Suggested Additional Test/Management Prior to Specialty Visit X-ray
MRI may be indicated
Patient Education/Information (includes preps)
1) Refer to Sports Medicine
2) The etiology of the pain and discomfort is typically identified in the office allowing more specific treatment to begin
3) Occasionally, no diagnosis can be obtained, however a thorough evaluation will be performed and all attempts made to alleviate discomfort
4) Physical Therapy may be indicated
