| Suggested Pre-Referral Evaluation and Management Guidelines |
The Multidisciplinary Developmental Evaluation Clinic (MDEC) accepts referrals for the evaluation of children under the age of 5 years with suspected autistic spectrum disorders, including Autism, Pervasive Developmental Disorder or Asperger Syndrome . Referrals for an initial evaluation/diagnosis as well as for second opinions are welcome.
The diagnostic team consists of a Pediatric Psychologist, a Pediatric Neurologist and a Speech Pathologist
MDEC does not accept patients for treatment or for children over the age of 5 years for evaluation.
Physician referrals are needed for insurance reimbursement for each of the 3 components of the evaluation - Speech, Neurology, and Psychology.

| Appointment Timeframe |
Time to Appointment is generally within 8-12 weeks.
All referrals to MDEC are triaged by the faculty to ensure that this clinic is the most appropriate to respond to the referral question. If a referral patient is not best served by MDEC, a phone call will be made to notify the referring physician.
The clinic coordinator will contact the family to schedule an appointment once our intake process is complete.

External Patients: Relevant Patient medical records or other evaluations may be faxed to MDEC, Pediatric Neurology.
One consult should be written for each of the 3 MDEC clinicians (Consult for MDEC Neurology, MDEC Psychology, and MDEC Speech. |
