Print This Page     Close Window Consult Request Guidelines for EMG Electrodiagnosis     EMG Electrodiagnosis Suggested Pre-Referral Evaluation and Management Guidelines If radiculopathy suspected, treat symptomatically unless weakness or bowel/bladder¿this situation requires immediate referral to neurosurgery If carpal tunnel is suspected, consider wrist splint that supports wrist in neutral position If patient on anticoagulopathy therapy, please include on script If cardiac pacemaker, cardioverter or defibrillators implanted, please indicate type of device on EMG referral Suggested Additional Test/Management Prior to Specialty Visit If patient on anticoagulopathy therapy, obtain INR 2 to 3 days prior to EMG through U of M lab or have patient hand carry the results to appointment Patient Education/Information (includes preps) Advise the patient not to wear hand lotion or other lotions on area to be studied. Have patient remove automotive, industrial grease or agents on skin.
