Amputation: Management of Upper Extremity (Acquired Adult)
Suggested Pre-Referral Evaluation and Management Guidelines
  		• If limb amputation recommended, request consult with PM&R Upper Extremity Amputation/Clinic for counseling and education preoperatively
  		• If limb amputation has been performed and patient is in hospital , consult with PM&R Amputation/Vascular Consult service; if an outpatient consult PM&R Upper Extremity Amputee Clinic
    Suggested Additional Test/Management Prior to Specialty Visit
  		• Maintain upper extremity range of motion post op
  		• Prescribe O.T. for ROM and early education
  		• If phantom sensation (feeling that the limb is still there but is not painful) is present, assure patient this is normal sensation; no treatment needed
  		• If phantom pain present, begin gabapentin 100 mg po TID and titrate
