Clinicians who are comfortable are encouraged to initiate a trial of a stimulant medication. Commonly, one of the methylphenidate preparations, or mixed salt amphetamine preparations are chosen first. Both a personal and family history of cardiac disease should be ascertained prior to initiation. Those patients with positive cardiac history may be screened with EKG.
