for Pilonidal Cyst

Pilonidal Cyst
Suggested Pre-Referral Evaluation and Management Guidelines Referral is indicated if:
  • there are pits in the midline buttock cleft skin characteristic of pilonidal disease and any symptoms of tenderness, swelling, or drainage
  • there is drainage from one or more sinus tracts in the buttock cleft region
  • there is an abscess in the buttock cleft region. If it is responding to antibiotic treatment, urgent visit to clinic is appropriate. If it is not responding to antibiotics and is acutely inflamed, referral to Emergency Department for evaluation prior to clinic evaluation is appropriate.
Suggested Additional Test/Management Prior to Specialty Visit No additional testing is needed.
