Thyroid Nodule or Hyperthyroidism
Suggested Pre-Referral Evaluation and Management Guidelines
Referral is indicated for:
 - Palpable nodule or nodule > 1cm identified on thyroid ultrasound
 - Abnormal cytology on Fine Needle Aspirate of nodule
 - Visible thyroid enlargement, large goiter or substernal goiter (seen on chest film or CT)
 - Hyperthyroidism from toxic nodule, toxic multinodular goiter, or Graves’ disease
Suggested Additional Test/Management Prior to Specialty Visit

Lab tests: TSH and T4

Ultrasound and FNA reports if these have been done. If not, thyroid ultrasound and Fine Needle Aspiration can be done by Endocrine Surgery at time of clinic visit.
