Print This Page     Close Window Consult Request Guidelines for Anal Cancer, including anal canal cancer in situ, (Bowen's disease), squamous cell cancer of anal canal, squamous cancer of perianal skin, verrucous cancer     Anal Cancer, including anal canal cancer in situ, (Bowen's disease), squamous cell cancer of anal canal, squamous cancer of perianal skin, verrucous cancer Suggested Pre-Referral Evaluation and Management Guidelines View photos of Bowen's disease and various cancers: Bowen's disease Bowen's disease 2 Bowen's precursor Perianal basal cell cancer Squamous cancer Verrucous cancer Referral is indicated: - If patient in UMHS system has suspicious anal skin lesion (firm, enlarging, exophytic, ulcerated, bleeding, non-healing). - If biopsy has been done at UMMC and report in CareWeb, that is sufficient. Patient not in UMH system should preferably have biopsy confirming neoplastic disease or cancer - If biopsy from outside UMMC, pathology report for review by clinician is mandatory. - If biopsy from outside and slides have not been reviewed by UMMC pathology, glass slides with report at or before clinic visit preferred. Suggested Additional Test/Management Prior to Specialty Visit - Colonoscopy, with colonoscopy procedure report if not done within past year (to rule out other colon malignancy) suggested if patient >50 or at high risk. Need not be done prior to visit. - If pathology is invasive anal cancer, CT with oral and IV contrast, of chest, abdomen, pelvis will be needed - report and images (preferably on CD) available for clinic visit.
