Referral is indicated:

If patient in UMHS system has suspicious anal skin lesion (firm, enlarging, exophytic, ulcerated, bleeding, non-healing). |

If biopsy has been done at UMMC and report in CareWeb, that is sufficient. |
Patient not in UMH system should preferably have biopsy confirming neoplastic disease or cancer

If biopsy from outside UMMC, pathology report for review by clinician is mandatory. |

If biopsy from outside and slides have not been reviewed by UMMC pathology, glass slides with report at or before clinic visit preferred. |

| Suggested Additional Test/Management Prior to Specialty Visit |

Colonoscopy, with colonoscopy procedure report if not done within past year (to rule out other colon malignancy) suggested if patient >50 or at high risk. Need not be done prior to visit. |

If pathology is invasive anal cancer, CT with oral and IV contrast, of chest, abdomen, pelvis will be needed - report and images (preferably on CD) available for clinic visit. |
